Dr. Fish Cafe

So in order to get one of my biggest Korea Bucket List checks, last Sunday I went to a Dr. Fish cafe with a group of friends.

There are several Dr. Fish cafes around, but we chose the one in Gangnam, because we were nearest to it.

Once we got to the cafe, we were seated and ordered drinks (everyone has to get drinks and they are pretty insistent about it) and then filled up on the free toast and butter buffet while waiting for our drinks to come.

Green Tea Latte!

The cafe was mostly just a normal coffee shop, with the extra perk of free toast. The fish seemed like kind of an afterthought, and we were the only ones to go anywhere near them the whole time we were there. I think the Dr. Fish fad is maybe just ending with the Koreans and the only ones left using it are the expats who think it seems like a funny blog post (me).

Mostly, it was just really really really scary. The fish were wayyy bigger than I wanted them to be.

It also tickled like a lot.

The fish really liked Tadhg, which I think mostly just means he has the grossest feet.

I didn't like it at all at first, like mayfly-season disliked. For someone who grew up with so much potential exposure to nature, I am sure frightened of everything it has produced.

Me not enjoying myself.

Tadhg's fish-covered feet. Ewww.

KK was pretty brave about it.

This was as brave as I got. Look at all those disgusting fish!

Sunday Funday

Sunday was a day of delicious foods:

Gamjatang
(Ping Spine Soup w/ Potatoes and Mushrooms)

Sushi Buffet with Josh and Nick

After we stuffed ourselves beyond belief we headed to the arcade. It was overwhelming.

Nick played some fighting game.

And lost to the Koreans.

Josh played the drums.

Then we found the DJ game!! OMGZ.

I was sooo good. Soon they'll let me DJ at Exit.

Slumber Party/Exorcist Coffee/Elizabeth's Goodbye

Friday night ended in a slumber party at my house.

Followed by a healthy breakfast scramble (that didn't end up tasting very good).

Then we headed to Ehwa University area for some shopping. But it was super cold, so Caitlin and I stopped in at Exorcist Coffee to warm up, get caffeinated, and rid ourselves of a few demons.

Saturday night, it was off to Hongdae because our friend, Elizabeth, is headed to England for six months and was having a going-away party.

We started at One Gram, one of our usual haunts.

Nick, Elizabeth and Randall.

Elizabeth.

Randall and I are all cheer.

Elizabeth, Tadhg, Josh and Mijin.

Mijin, Jon and Stu.

Then it was off to Free Bird to dance to some terrible music!

Jiyoung and I.

Josh,  Jiyoung and Hyunsik.

Everyone!

Beer O'Clock 10 Shot Challenge/Noribar

On Friday, a few of my friends decided to do the 10 Shot Challenge at Beer O'Clock, a Canadian Bar in Sinchon. I'm not foolhardy enough for such tasks, so I stuck to beer, but it was funny to watch.

40 Shots.

Jiyoung, Nick, Becky, KK: Shot One

Halfway.

Finished!

A blurry Caitlin and I, maybe taken by the challengers.

After Beer O'Clock, we headed to one of our favorite places to dance: Noribar.

Jiyoung, Hyunshik, Caitlin, Jon and Nick.

Noribar Seance.

Not afraid to dance alone.

Caitlin, Hyunsik, Jiyoung and I.

Caitlin, Jiyoung and Tadhg on the dance floor.

Then there were ghosts.

Jon and I! Self Cam!

And again, this time with Randall.

Josh makes the best picture faces.

We apparently never tire of the dance floor.

It was a good start to a long weekend. There are pictures from the other nights as well. All to come soon. Happy Solnal!!!!!

Korean Lunar New Year is next week, so today at school everyone dressed in hanbok, arm wrestled, bowed for money and took lots of pictures. Festive!

Tadhg and Paul started the arm wrestling events off.
